The Minister for Defence, Senator John Faulkner, today officially opened Defence's new Cyber Security Operations Centre in Canberra.

"The establishment of the Cyber Security Operations Centre within the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) is a major step in meeting the Government's 2009 Defence White Paper commitment to provide comprehensive understanding of the cyber threat," Senator Faulkner said.

Today I met with the Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security Jane Holl Lute to discuss the enhanced border security procedures put in place following the attempted Christmas Day attack. We also discussed ways to bolster our collective efforts to disrupt and prevent future acts of terrorism.
 
I was joined by the Prime Minister's National Security Advisor Duncan Lewis as well as senior officials from my Department and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
